Sunday Rambles 2011 sets out with true Highlands flair
Jim Thomson, retired pipe major of the venerable Toronto Scottish Regiment Pipes and Drums, will lead out the first Sunday Ramble of 2011 in stirring Highlands style. Jim divides his time between Haliburton and the city. Sunday Rambles, the signature series originated by FoRT, welcomes ALL - young and old, individuals and families, sociable dogs, lovers of railway heritage and nature alike. This Ramble passes through a fen - a bog-type wetland with very specialized flora and fauna that would typically be found in a much more remote setting. The 1878 railbed bisects the fen, making it wonderfully accessible for nature enthusiasts. Thus the Sunday outing will be a Highlands Heritage Ramble in three ways: harkening back to that other highlands on the old country, connecting to our railway heritage, and focusing on our rich natural heritage.
